Globacomm angry with D'banj for featuring in MTN's Kcee's 'Emmah' video ?

D'banj's multi-million Naira brand endorsement deal with Globacom Nigeria is presently being threatened!
The reason is not unrelated with the fact that he featured in the music video of Emmah, a song by Kcee, an ambassador of MTN, Globacom’s main rival.

You see, though endorsements are lucrative to artists, it prohibits them from associating with elements of their endorsing companies’ rivals.
It was for this reason that Tiwa Savage could not perform at the prestigious Sister With Soul concert last year.
She is an MTN ambassador and the concert was sponsored by Etisalat.
Omawumi, another Globacom ambassador, was also affected by her endorsement last year as, when she wanted to shoot the video of Warn Yourself, the song in which she featured Wizkid, she had to cut his vocals from the video as she couldn’t feature him in it any longer because he was an MTN ambassador.
You will also recall that Kunle Afolayan was dropped by Glo for featuring "Etisalat's now MTN's Saka' in his hit movie, Phone Swap.
Oh well...I wonder what fate shall befall D'banj!

PHOTO: Nigerian Gays And Lesbians Plan Protest In Abuja

PHOTO: Nigerian Gays And Lesbians Plan Protest In Abuja
Nigerian gays and lesbians, under the aegis of ‘The Right Defense’, are daring President Goodluck Jonathan, and would soon stage a demonstration in Abuja, the Nigerian capital, they said in a statement on Saturday.

They are protesting against the anti-gay law which took effect on 7 January this year when the president signed it.

Although overwhelmingly supported by Nigerians, the law has been sharply criticised by western countries, especially the United States and Britain, which see it as an infringement on the rights of gays and lesbians.

Nigerian gays in a statement they accompanied with masked pictures of themselves said they were protesting against an “undemocratic and unlawful discrimination” of gays and lesbians and trans-genders in the country.

The demonstration in Abuja, they said, has become necessary to condemn what they call “an increase in threats against fundamental human rights of certain persons including LGBT in the country.”

“This is not an ideological protest movement. It’s about quality of democracy in Nigeria. This is about people making some very democratic demands about the government’s need to respect freedom of assembly and freedom of association, as it is channelled in the United Nations universal declaration of Human Rights,” The Right Defense said.

The group added: “We also challenge the existence of the Nigeria human rights body, the National Human Right Commission for its lack of integrity and principle in the fight against discrimination and violation of individual rights.”

The Right Defense said many of its members have suffered overt discrimination from law enforcement and judicial authorities, particularly in their various communities for being constantly accused of indecent practices.

They said they often don’t report rights violations to authorities out of fear of reprisal or arrest.

The group said many Nigerians have in the past fled the country due to threats to life and harassment in their communities.

Anti-Gay Law Fallout: Canadian Government Cancels Nigerian President Jonathan’s State Visit

Anti-Gay Law Fallout: Canadian Government Cancels Nigerian President Jonathan’s State Visit
A state visit being planned by Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan to Canada for February has been canceled by the Canadian Government.

The cancelation happened in the same week it was revealed the President secretly signed a controversial law banning gays, lesbians, and intimate minorities in Nigeria.

Sources in Abuja told Saharareporters that the Nigerian Ambassador to Canada, Ojo Madueke, was told to inform President Jonathan that the state visit to Canada scheduled for February 13 and 14th 2014 has now been cancelled.

Jonathan Skiped 31 Generals To Appoint Minimah As Chief Of Army Staff

Jonathan Skiped 31 Generals To Appoint Minimah As Chief Of Army Staff
appoint Maj-Gen. Kenneth Tobiah Jacob Minimah as chief of army staff, President Goodluck Jonathan had to skip 31 generals who are his seniors in the Nigerian Army, LEADERSHIP Weekend has learnt. Of these generals, 15 would be retired soon while 16 may be left to work with the new army boss, it was further learnt.

Since the sack of the service chiefs and the immediate appointment of the new ones by President Jonathan during the week, there has been panic in the country’s barracks, as the superiors of the new service chiefs fear that the retirement to be engendered by the development could affect them. Those who have cases against the new service chiefs are hoping to get redress at the National Assembly when they would be screened.

Special adviser on media and information Dr Reuben Abati had said the president “in the exercise of the powers conferred on him by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria” approved the following changes in the nation’s military high command: Air Marshal Alex Badeh takes over from Admiral Ola Sa’ad Ibrahim as chief of defence staff; Maj-Gen. Kenneth Tobiah Jacob Minimah takes over from Lt.-Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika as chief of army staff; Rear Admiral Usman Jibrin takes over from Vice Admiral Dele Joseph Ezeoba as chief of naval staff; and Air Vice Marshal Adesola Nunayon Amosu takes over from Air Marshal Badeh as chief of air staff.
There was a conflict in the statement issued by Abati. He stated that “all the changes are with immediate effect” and that the president would soon seek the approval of the National Assembly as mandated by the constitution.

Since the announcement of what a top security person described as a tsunami, an uneasy calm has pervaded in most military formations and embassies abroad, since one aftermath of the re-organisation should include mass retirement of top officers who, according to the tradition of the military, would not be able to fit into the new system because of their years of service.

“President Jonathan as the commander-in-chief has the constitutional right to appoint whoever he wants as the service chiefs since the offices have become political, but courtesy calls for caution in considering who becomes what because of the implication on the military, especially the very senior officers who may be asked to go on voluntary retirement,” a security top brass said. “One of the implications of appointing Maj-Gen. Minimah (a Regular Course 25 member of the Nigerian Defence Academy) as the chief of army staff is that all those who are his seniors, like Course 24, 23 or 22, are going. This is the tradition. The same thing would happen in the Air Force. In the Navy, those who are members of Regular courses above the new chief would go. This is why it is dangerous to allow the service chiefs to stay beyond the terms and conditions of service which stipulates 56 years of age and 35 years in service.”

The source further explained that, with the imminent mass retirement, “all the services would be forced to overhaul the recent appointments made by the outgoing service chiefs because the new helmsmen would like to bring on board officers that they believe would give them absolute support”.

Another military officer who noted that the appointment of General Minimah did not go down well with some forces in the north which lost out and that they would shift the battlefield to the National Assembly.

“The appointment of Minimah is an ill-wind that blows into the face of the military. We have been crying out that the agenda of Jonathan is to name his kinsman the chief of army staff right from his days in Lagos Command but they said we were alarmists; now the hen has come home to roost. There are so many officers who are superior to Minimah; now what becomes of them?

“One good thing is the appointments made by Jonathan are subject to the approval of the National Assembly. Let them (the lawmakers) ask him to explain why Minimah should be the COAS when there are very senior officers above him,” he said.

The new chief of defence staff and former chief of air staff, Air Marshal Badeh, was born on January 10, 1957, and hails from Adamawa State. He joined the Air Force as a member of the Nigerian Defence Academy’s 21 Regular Course.

The new army chief, Maj-Gen. Minimah, was born on July 27, 1959, and joined the Army as a member of the Nigerian Defence Academy’s 25 Regular Course. Until his new appointment, he was the commander of the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps, Jaji. Minimah hails from Rivers but, because he is an Ijaw man, some Nigerians believe he is from Bayelsa like Jonathan.

PHOTOS: Meet The First Black Gay Couple Who Raised 3 Kids Together
With all the criticisms going around, it's not easy to see people come out to the open and say they are gay. Kordale and Kaleb are however, two great fathers raising a lovely family together....

The young gay couple live in Atlanta with their three children whom they are very proud of. Regardless of what people say, the couple have gone ahead to live their lives normally and take responsibility of their family like every regular couple would. This week, the guys updated their Instagram with a photo of themselves getting their children set for school with a caption "Being fathers is getting our daughters up at 5:30 am making breakfast, getting them dressed for school and putting them on the bus by 6:30. This is a typical day in our household. It’s not easy but we enjoy every moment and every minute of#fatherhood.#proudfathers#blackfathers#prouddads#gaydads". Destroying all stereotypes about gay relationships, the proud dads are changing the way many people see blended families. They are very loving fathers who help their kids with homework, see them off to school, and shower them with all the love they need. The dads are working professionals raising their adopted children, two daughters and a son, in a five-bedroom house situated in a middle-class Atlanta suburb. Like any other parents, they take care of all the children’s needs including taking them to school and extra-mural activities. A large number have questioned their ability, as black, gay men, to effectively parent their children, while others have slammed their decision to publicise their lifestyle on social media. But among the harsh comments, there have been many who have applauded the couple for going against stereotypical views that gay black men cannot be successful parents. Kindly share your opinion on this, do you think gay dads can function well and fit into the 'Mum and Dad role' of raising kids in the long run?

Archbishop Desmond Tutu Launches The World’s First Gay Political Party

Archbishop Desmond Tutu Launches The World’s First Gay Political Party
ARCHBISHOP Desmond Tutu has surprised South Africans by announcing the formation of a gay political party called the Democratic Religious Alliance Against Minority Antagonism (DRAAMA), which will take part in a general election later this year.
Desmond tutu 600x400 Archbishop Desmond Tutu Launches The Worlds First Gay Political Party
Last year Tutu outraged Christians when he declared: “I would refuse to go to a homophobic heaven…No, I would say sorry, I mean I would much rather go to hell…I would not worship a God who is homophobic and that is how deeply I feel about this.”
The Nobel Peace Prize laureate and South African archbishop emeritus added that he does not believe religion provides justification for homophobia.
His passion on the issue has led him to form the world’s first gay political party to address an issue which he feels president Jacob Zuma “tiptoes” around.
The first and last time we ever heard president Jacob Zuma addressing issues around anti-homophobia was when he had to make a public apology regarding a damaging statement he made about this minority group.
In a media statement released on Wednesday, DRAAMA said it is set to be at the forefront of minority human-rights issues the current ruling party has dragged its feet in addressing.
According to this report: “With gay socialite and choreographer Somizi Mhlongo being poached as the party’s spin doctor, South Africans should brace themselves for a lot of DRAAMA!!!”
Said Mhlongo: “I was pleasantly surprised upon receiving a call from the honourable Archbishop Desmond Tutu informing me of his intentions and his request for my involvement.”
Before his election as South African President Jacob Zuma was forced to apologise after offending the gay community.
He was quoted as saying that same-sex marriages were: “A disgrace to the nation and to God.”
He also said that when he was a young man, he would have knocked down any homosexual person he met.
He later retracted his words and explained: “My remarks were made in the context of the traditional way of raising children … I said the communal upbringing of children in the past was able to assist parents to notice children with a different social orientation. I however did not intend to have this interpreted as a condemnation of gays and lesbians.”
He also said he respected: “The sterling contribution of many gay and lesbian compatriots in the struggle that brought about our freedom.”
Across the border Mugabe has condemned South Africa for their stance on gay rights, claiming that they should not be upheld as they are not human rights. He said: “Gays and lesbians are worse than pigs and dogs. We cannot allow our children to be worse than wild animals.”
